Germany v Spain
Euro2008 Final

29/06/2008

The two teams, Germany and Spain, went in to this game on completely different form. Germany had played awfully in their semi final, beating Turkey with an extremely lucky last minute goal. Spain, however, would have been very confident due to winning every single one of their games in this tournament, including an outstanding display in the semi finals against Russia.

Germany started well, putting together good phases of play and making some good chances, but Iker Casillas was on top form to keep the Germans out. It was after about twenty minutes that the game started to change, with the Spanish starting to take control of the game, and the Germans suddenly looked very weak. Spain were getting more and more opportunities, and were extremely unlucky not to score when Torres hit the post.

It was just a few minutes after that incident when the first goal came. Xabi played a brilliant ball in between two German defenders, and Fernando Torres raced passed them and lifted the ball neatly over Lehmann. The Spanish team should have added at least one more goal before the half time whistle, but they went in for the break leading by one goal to nil.

In the second half, Germany again started well, and looked extremely likely to equalise, creating plenty of opportunities, but just lacking the final touch to convert the ball. Spain then once again took control, running rings around the Germans and may have scored at least two more goals. Germany started to look extremely tired, and after that they never looked like getting back into the game.

Overall, a fantastic game, with Spain being the deserved winners of Euro 2008. They simply outplayed the Germans, who looked very tired and their defence really struggled with the Spanish attackers.

Final Score:

Germany 0 – 1 Spain
